The Daily Reader is all about reading the Bible, together. That doesn’t mean literally reading out loud in the same room, but enjoying our Bible reading as a group of believers who will pray for and encourage one another. The Daily Reader was launched at Oakhall Church in December of 2008. We recognise that all too often people begin reading through the Bible in January (New Year resolution), but lose heart within a few weeks. Then the rest of the year we feel guilty for not following through on a spiritual commitment.
The Daily Reader is a guilt-free zone – no pressure, no guilt-trips, no feeling bad. This isn’t about ticking boxes and feeling pressured. It’s about encouraging one another to enjoy God’s Word. A privilege, not a pressure. A delight, not a duty. A blessing, not a burden. The Daily Reader includes:
1. The Reading Plan – specially designed to lead us through the Old and New Testaments each day. The order of both testaments is fresh, but it covers all 66 books! Pick up a plan at church, or click on “Reading Plan” tab at the top to print your copy.
2. Monthly Encouragement Sheets - the last Sunday of every month these sheets will be distributed at church, and available on this site (click on “Monthly Sheet” tab at the top). These are a monthly encouragement to carry on, jump in and join us or jump back in and rejoin us.
3. Encouragement Partner – we strongly encourage you to find someone else following The Daily Reader and become encouragement partners. Perhaps once a week, or once every two weeks, make contact with each other and encourage each other. This is about encouragement and friendship, not guilt-inducing accountability!
4. Special Events – for Oakhall folk there will be some special events during the year. We’ll keep you posted (and anyone reading this elsewhere is welcome to copy the special events in your own church!)
5. TheDailyReader.net - this site is an extra source of encouragement. All the resources will be readily available on this site. Plus we’ll share brief posts and comments as we go. Please add comments when you are blessed by God’s Word during the year (share the blessing). Comments will be moderated to make sure we don’t have any legalism or pressure creeping in! Perhaps you’d like to receive the posts direct? The easiest option is to subscribe by email in the box provided. Alternatively, for those who like RSS, click on the “Feed” buttons at the top of the page (this allows comment feeds as well, although I can add email subscription to comments if there is demand for it).
